Call for Papers: “ Past and present climatic change in Antarctica ”Advances in Polar Science Special Issue

Dear colleagues,

We would like to invite you to participate in the special issue of the journal Advances in Polar Science (ISSN 1674-9928) entitled "Past and present climatic change in Antarctica: geological proxies and biological processes". Antarctica, West Antarctica in particular, has experienced amplified warming over the last decades, which has induced observable changes in local Antarctic ecosystems. The impact of global climate change is extremely important for the Antarctic continent, given that any future alterations to its environment and ecosystems could have far-reaching consequences on a global scale. Antarctica serves as a repository for a significantly understudied historical record of environmental, climatic, and biotic changes that have contributed to its present configuration. By understanding these historical records, as well as the dynamics of current ecosystems under climate change, we can develop policy initiatives aimed at mitigating their impact.

The main purpose of this issue is to provide new information and reviews on climate changes in Antarctica. We welcome the submission of manuscripts on the following but not limited topics:

(1) Geological, paleontological, and biological contributions that reveal paleoclimates and paleoecosystems.

(2) Responses of populations and ecosystems to climate and environmental change.

(3) Recent techniques and networks for environmental observations.

Advances in Polar Science (APS) is an international, peer-reviewed journal jointly sponsored by the Polar Research Institute of China and the Chinese Society for Oceanography, published quarterly by China Science Press, for the entire Antarctic and Arctic science community. Original papers are accepted from scientists of any nation, subject to peer review by at least two expert referees. Papers must present scientific results or interpretations that are new and have not been published elsewhere. APS is published only in English. The editors particularly welcome papers with a multidisciplinary approach. There are no page charges.

If you are interested in this proposal, please send us a tentative title and the names of possible co-authors in case you would like to invite anyone. The manuscripts will be subject to the peer-review process. The guidelines for the format of papers can be found at: https://aps.chinare.org.cn/EN/column/column4.shtml.

As this will be a thematic issue of APS, we must insist on strict adherence to the following deadlines:

- 30 June 2023: deadline for submitting tentative titles of possible contributions (please send directly to journal@pric.org.cn).

- 1 September 2023: deadline for submitting a manuscript for this issue.

- 1 December 2023: deadline for submission of the final accepted paper.

Sincerely,
