Open access policy

Advances in Polar Science is a peer reviewed, fully open access journal.  Authors do not have to pay any open access publication fee thanks to the generous sponsor by Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC). PRIC retains copyright of the overall compiled journal and the compiled issues. Peer review is under the responsibility of PRIC.

Access rights

Advances in Polar Science flipped to a fully open access model since June 2023. All articles will be immediately and permanently free for everyone to read, download, copy and distribute from the second issue 2023 (Volume 34, No.2).
All papers published in the journal before June 2023 were converted to open access. Users can read and download papers for free from our website (https://aps.chinare.org.cn) and reuse the archive papers under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND) license.

User rights

Permitted third party reuse is defined by the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND):

Allows users to copy and distribute the Article, provided this is not done for commercial purposes and further does not permit distribution of the Article if it is changed or edited in any way, and provided the user gives appropriate credit (with a link to the formal publication through the relevant DOI), provides a link to the license, and that the licensor is not represented as endorsing the use made of the work.

Note: If you need to comply with your funding body policy, you can apply for the CC BY license after your manuscript is accepted for publication.

Author Rights

For open access publishing, this journal uses an exclusive licensing agreement. Authors will transfer copyright to PRIC, and PRIC will be granted publishing and distribution rights. Authors will have the right to share their article in the same way permitted to third parties under the CC BY-NC-ND agreement, as well as certain scholarly usage rights.
